Because it's easier to hide from your buddy when you have all black kit.

Lets not beat around the bush, having all black kit looks cool. Having white tanks and jet fins is "DIR" cool too. (troll troll troll) That's the only reason I've got black and white gear.

Apart from my bright yellow fins :) :) Which is totally uncool...thankfully.

Would you have a painted pink car with day-glow yellow wheels or black one with nice alloys? Its the same car...whats the big deal??

No big deal - I have nothing against all black dive gear. I'm just puzzled that there are a lot of people out there who strive to Do It Right and have the safest kit, obviously putting a lot of thought into it, but then insist on black gear simply because they think it looks cool.

There may be worthwhile reasons, but I haven't heard one yet.

This is not directed at you Ginger, I think if you're relying on colour as part of your dive plan to keep you safe then good luck to you, I can't see any situation that is made safer having garish colours that proper planning, situational awareness and an SMB won't mitigate.

But of course if colour is what you want then fill ya boots! I just don't think folk should feel that they are safer due to their colourful kit because IMHO it is an illusion and heuristic traps that way lie.....

I have a black BCD because that was the only colour it came in when I bought it.
My jetfins are black and once again that is the only colour they came in.
My mask is black because that's the only colour that particular model came in.
My wetsuit OTOH is black and gunmetal gray while my drysuit is black and blue.
My tanks are yellow

No colour is definitely not part of my safety plan. And neither would I rely on the airbags in my car to save my life in an accident despite it being a worthwhile feature (ironically I think airbags may have been invented because american's were too lazy/dumb to wear seatbelts, but that might be an urban legend).

But what I was talking about was people avoiding colour.

I'm the tool.
I reckon black gear looks well cool. Many here are listing that they got gear in black because that was all that was available. I reckon if there was a choice then predominantly, most people would still choose black. It looks great. It matches all the other black gear. And it's just a little bit ninja. Black is the new black.

black is the coolest..esp when you're just struggled into your full kit, in the baking sun in the middle of summer just about to get into the water - :D

There has been a few mentions of ninjas in this thread. The absurd 'ninja' option was deliberately left off the poll.

Scubadivers do not resemble ninjas in any way shape or form. FULL STOP.

Any more ninja talk shall be in the following ninja thread:

I am ginger enough I think.

And I haven't actually been able to find any orange gear.

My wing and parts of my harness are red, my wetsuit is black with a few blue bits - only came in that colour, and fins are yellow (chosen over black and blue versions).
