How are you planning to do the training? What skills do you want to develop/practise?

I'm booked in for AOW/EANX/Rescue just under 2 months time with my partner so should be an interesting 7 or so days

:D

What date is the course? I 'd be keen to join in if there is space.
I did AOW with Dive Marlbourgh in January but haven't done the navigation dive yet as I was not able to get there for the first day.

I would like to finish the AOW and do the Rescue.

I am living in Golden Bay so it's not too far to travel.

BTW I joined the Dive Marlbourgh club. It cost $120 I think for lifetime membership. Now I get Lermontov trips for $90 instead of $235, as well as 10 free fills and a tee shirt :) Only locals (meaning all kiwis I think) can join, not tourists.

Cheers

Line skills, lost line, trim and bouyancy ( always needs work), finning techniques, air share in confind spaces etc.

All the things you should learn in a good wreck course.
My SSI course didnt teach a single one!!! Well some of them were discussed but not were practiced.

Well well it's a small world.. The course is booked to start on the 23rd of June.

Yeah the Lerm deals are very good aren't they..

Sweet as
I'll give Brent a call.

Water should be refreshingly cool by then too.

so, if I read this right...you could join the Dive Marlborough Club for $120. Then you can pay $90 for a Lermi trip (total = $210) saving $25 on a just bought trip?
What is included in the trips?

I've copied this off of the club site.. http://www.inet.net.nz/~schotanus/DIVECLUB.htm

Quote:
Membership is for as long as you wish as long as you continue to meet membership requirements.

With membership you will have access to:

. Nine and Six meter club dive boats

. Club trips up to four times a week

Mid week evening Scallop/Wreck or Project dives at $35.00 inclusive of air and cylinder.

Outer sound dives on weekends and public holidays for $ 75.00 inclusive of air and cylinders.

· Expedition dives to some of the more advanced dive sites.

· Standby bookings for mid week Lermontov and outer sound trips $65.00, inclusive cylinders, air and lunch

· Regular club trips to Kaikoura, French Pass, Pu Pu Springs, Port Underwood, Riwaka Caves, Poor Knights and Fiordland.

Annual overseas trip to a tropical location

· Free scuba unit and wetsuit rental whilst on club trips and standby dives for the first year of membership ( excludes mask, snorkel, fins, weight belt, boots & gloves which will be offered at a special club deal ) college students have all equipment rental included with membership.

· Air Fills at $5.00, Enriched Air fills at $12.00

· Huge savings on Diving, First Aid and Boat handling & seamanship courses.

· 10% discount on equipment purchases

· 15% discount on equipment purchases for Safety Diver members

· 20% discount on equipment purchases for Dive master members

· 25% discount on equipment purchases for Instructor members

· 10% discount on equipment servicing and tank testing

· 20% discount on equipment rental for non club dives

· Club competitions and activities

· Club website with stories, reports, upcoming events and specials

· Discounts at selected retailers in Blenheim and Picton

I think from memory the Club member discount for a weekend trip to the Lerm is $95/2 dive trip with coffee/tea and snacks included.

The one off membership fee is $150

It's a good setup and very good value.

I do not work for Dive Marlborough :D

Thanks for clarifying those details PB

Definitely worth joining if you plan to do any more than a single Lermontov trip.
$95 is a bargain for the 2 dive trip in my opinion.

It grates a little having to do the EANX and AOW as I certainly feel what I had to do for the commercial diving course covered waay more than those 2 ever could, come to think of it the rescues we had to perform were pretty knarly as well.. but I want to do advanced nitrox and deco procedures and the ADAS qual isn't recognised by the agencies providing them as far as I'm aware.. :x

There's got to ba a way around.
Taking a look at the web, you can do TDI Nitrox and Adv Nitrox with OpenWater. The TDI Deco procedures mentions SDI advanced as a pre req or equivalent,, and I'm pretty sure I know of a couple of TDI instructors who'll consider your commercial experience and quals as being *more* than equivalent.
Personally, I reckon if you do the PADI course, you'll spend the next few years begrudging the $$$s you wasted for something you're already way ahead of.
