I have heard that u can DIY fibre optix cords from your camera housing to your strobes.

Is this really possible?

Thanks

PB-feel free to elaborate a little on the 'i built a wig like this once' comment. :P
I'd be quite interested in a DIY 'eye catching' wig like that!

Anything is possible in DIY. The real question is it practical???

Off the top of my head I'd look at an Optical digital cable from a CD/DVD player. Try Dick Smith or the like for a cheap one. The hard part will be finding a way to attach it to your strobe and camera. You will need the end of the optical cable pointing directly to the cameras flash and strobes sensor.

Fiber Optic cable seems cheap enough eg on TradeMe. Shouldn't be too hard to mount it,, and the rest could be put to good use making a wig,, or any other body hair you feel needs illuminating

It works!!!!!

so i bought fibre optic from Jaycar,

CAT. NO. WO4360:

it's 4 meters, so i cut them into 4 peices, each 1 meter. Each strobe require 2 of them (2x 1 metre). The problem is attaching them from the housing to the strobes:

This is how i attach them:

from my Ikelite's housing:

This is how theyare attach to the strobes:

Since my DIY arms are hollows, i have the cables put through inside the arms. So less chances of getting cut if they were exposed. I do admit is i ugly using cable times, bunggie cord, etc. I do plan to assemble it better later on. FYI, the local dive shops here sell 1 meter of Sea and Sea fibre optic for NZ$195. I bought mine for NZ$22.50 for a 4 meters cord.

hope this info is useful
