How is it redundant? If you drop your slate and 2nd comp why not follow the pofile of the helo2 instead of the preloaded plan? Once again its more acurite. I dont like it because i see no advantage in it.

I don't plan my dives anymore. I've got a dive comp that I use for diving including mixed gas, and a bottom timer then in pocket I've got a whole bunch of dive profiles written on my wet-notes just in case the comp dies. ( which I've never used.) The only I've ever a comp die on me mid-water, I just dived my buddies profile, and padded it out on 02 for an extra 5 min @ 3m.

I use a bottom timer and tables as a back up. But thats beside the point. my point is you are always better of using the calculated profile of the helo2 than pre loaded plan. If you lose your helo2 you must use your back up

You must realise that these uploaded dive plans offer no redundancy? If your helo2 dies they are gone along with its generated profile.

DM. i think i must be missing some thing here. Are you suggesting that the Helo2 be set in gauge mode and just used as bottom timer that is also an electronic table holder too?

Having re-read that review, it really is a bunch of subjective arse.
I'm not saying that the Helo2 is the latest and greatest, but at least, if you're going to review it, do it properly.
Example gripes:

- "ability to handle normix" - the Helo2 goes down to 8% O2. Slightly outside the range of normix
- Just because the D9 had an issue, how does he imply this impacts the Helo2. Any evidence? The reviewer took it for a dive. Did it break? I think he would have mentioned it.
- reviewer mentioned "complexity in function" - ever tried running a vr3 (seemingly the reviewer's benchmark)? it's far from straight forward
- The reviewer complained of no up-comming stops and how the Suunto winds off deco in the shallows. What I hate about the Vr3 is that when it puts in a stop it DOESNT take into consideration the time you subsequently spent in the shallows. Imagine a 40m dive, and you've got a 3 minute stop at 12 meters,,, but you happen to have just spend 20 mins at 15meters,,, is the 12 meter stop still valid? Personally (and Suunto) don't believe it is.
- Could the reviewer find anything actually wrong with the algorithm, other than it's slightly different to others? It's called the SUUNTO Technical RGBM after all.
- The reviewer mentioned "when all potential bugs are fixed he'll give it a second consideration". What bugs? he went for a dive on it. Did he see any bugs? Could he describe them to us please?

Sorry. That review was a bunch of arse. He went in biased, came out biased, mentioned little useful about the unit and made out that it was a pile of shite without giving any quantifiable reasons.
James Thornton-Allan - you may own a very nice dive operation over in Thailand, but you're a crappy reviewer.
