Last year we had a change to the Auckland east coast scallop season.
It now appears the west coast has changed too.

The new season is 1st September - 31 March

Other areas have different seasons so please check here for more information.

Had a great trip to the sounds with Abel Tasman club over the weekend and feasted on some nice fat scollies.
Also blasted out to the outer sounds and scored some Paua (without scuba of coarse).
We stayed in a great old homestead on a private beach (classic thing was Plumb Bob, that it was down the next driveway from the one we tried to get down on the last sunday of the rescue coarse).
Perfect practice zone for diving my new drysuit too. We geared up on the huge covered veranda and walked 20m to the beach which sloped nicely down to 20m. Good vis and plenty of scallops right there :)

So you must be getting well sorted with the suit now yeah? How did getting the new boots and neck seal go?

Ha ha :)
The bach was built by Susan's grandparents, who payed for it all from the earnings of their dance band. You would need to be a fairly famous band to do that now days.

The suit is great. Got the extra weight out of my trim pockets and onto a belt which works well. Multiple dives are now pure pleasure :D

For a newbie, without wanting to steel your possie, where would be a good place to try for scollops around the Waiheke inner side?
Where do we find all the rules?
Many thanks :?

There is a link to the rules in the first post.

Best place to find scallops around the inner side of Waiheke is my place (Maraetai) just after I have come back from a dive on the outer side of Waiheke.

I usually go to Hooks bay which never fails although they were not all that big last season and took a while to get the bag limit.
The east side of the bay is where I usually go. in about 18-20 meters

Pakatoa is another spot but was a bit barren there last season. They have been on both the north and south sides. Nice and shallow at 6-8 meters.

Oh welcome to the board!!!!

Performance Dive has a Scallop Dive to Jones Bay on their calendar: http://www.performancediver.co.nz/trips ... gform.html
Shore dive to hunt scallops sounds good.
Perhaps scallops can help my wife to see why I need more gear? :)

Jones bay has always been a good spot but being the only shore dive scallop spot with in 2 hours drive of Auckland that I know of ( excluding the Manukau) its usually pretty busy and you need to go out a fair way to get any.
Having said that we could always do a SODS scallop dive one day and finish up with a night dive.
Actually that whole area on the inside of Kawau is covered in scallop beds. You just need a boat to get to them.
