Seeing as I haven't found any scallops yet, I was asked if I would like to go feeling for sunk moorings in the Tamaki River.
I thought about using an anchor upstream of the site and swinging on an arc, gradually letting out line. What about electronic metal detectors. Has anyone done this? Probably only once :(
Also I might know of the whereabouts of a long lost lead keel. 1.7tonne. Who owns it? $8 a kilo cast as dive weights, thats $13,600!

I recovered a few anchors for friends :) My only payment free trips out in there boat.

One anchor was off a 50ft yacht, with 60m of big chain, but it was only in 3-5m of water...but it was HEAVY! Just getting the end of the chain was hard work.

I've recovered other peoples weight belts, fins, masks. :)

I recovered a fishing rod just off Bucklands beach. I just dropped a dive weight into the murk, with some cave line attached, then did circles slowly letting line out. I found the fishing rod in 10cm vis within 20mins :)

Dont you need a commercial ticket for paid salvage? I just salvaged 3 bottles off the Lastingholm and saucer of a ferry today.

I don't think salvaging glasses from the pub counts either.
By the way, I tried to view the social pages but got blocked as unsuitable. How can I meet you bunch of SODs?

yeah you do need quals for commercial salvage apropriate to the depth and type of work... Failing that just keep quiet about it like 80% of the industry...

Salvage is a bit of a touchy subject here in NZ. If i were you i'd just shut up about it and get on with it.

The insurers own it, to answer your question.
