This is the first time I have had a good look at the Intova.

Its a nice light and well made. Some have had problems with the reed switch breaking.
It has a very wide angle aspheric lens which provides a smooth beam with a small halo not really picked up in the photos.

It would make a really good focusing light for a camera but IMHO the beam is to wide for any other purpose.

Packhorse,
Would the Intova be able to be modded to use a Q5 aspheric (or even without the aspheric)?

Thinking about using one as a host perhaps...

The Intova I have here already uses a Cree LED (may or may not be a Q5 as they all look the same). And as stated has an aspheric lens already too. I havent managed to open it up and dont want to force it as its not mine.
But as long as you can open it you could change the aspheric for a tighter beam one. Swap the Cree for a better bin one. Perhaps even bore it out to take a 18650 cell instead of 2 cr123's( you would have to swap the driver out too).

There is another Intova ( grey one??) that I think used a Luxeon LED and a reflector. They are cheaper and probably a better choice to mod. I think the body is the same.

Left standard modded IST..............Right super tight bright beam mod.

Just made a few modifications to my modified IST light.
Unfortunatly its not suitable for diving but man this this is bright and such a tight beam. It really throws the light!

You can't say that you've made a few changes - throw a pic of a couple of hellishly bright lights and NOT tell us what the mods are...

Its simply a different aspheric lens. It larger and sits further foward which means it replaces the other aspheric and the flat lens. Because there is no flat lens if used underwater the water will refract the light.
Do be honest its too tight and not really suitable for anything other than long range spotting use. I may try defocusing it to offer slightly larger round spot instead. This should increase it efficiency some what too as much of the light is spilled before it hits the aspheric.
