Bugger. Hope he is OK.

Seems a long way off shore.
Depth is given as 30 fathoms (55 meters).

Having spent a lot of time in that forsaken hellhole I did have ideas of diving the Holmglen before leaving but for various reasons (the fact the wreck is swept by very vicious currents one of them, oh and not yet being experienced enough..) never got round to it.

It was a coastal trader that went down claiming 15 lives I think from memory.. Ah just noticed the Holmglen link..

I hope he's found safe and well.

From a radio report I heard yesterday it was a group of divers "inspecting" the wreck. which led me to believe it was not a recreational dive.

A little more info;
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/artic ... d=10542448

..from reading that, I'm still not 100% clear if he made it to the 12m deco stop though?

Sounds like tech-diving accident, due to the planned deco stop. I'd hate to hear the media start down the "dangerous tech-diving" path...etc... I hope he is fine, as he is one of our own.

I've got to agree. It looks like a normal & planned dive that's gone wrong for some reason. I hope they find him soon. I also feel bad for the other divers; poor guys must be going through hell. I sincerely hope nobody tries to point the finger at them.

Looks like he was an advanced trimix certified diver, Kevin Bailey from Blenheim Dive.

Wonder if they they were diving trimix? 55m is a depth that many (myself included) would have a go at diving on air.
