Hard for me to tell with two images on different pages. Try 75,2,3 in the unsharp. That's a good portrait sharpening setting and may make the image more 'punchy' which would work well with that subject. Mail me the pic and i can do a before and after.
Sometimes the sharpening in PS will not work too well with P&S cam's. They often run very high in cam sharpening settings. Best to turn off the cam's sharpening settings, take images at the highest quality you can and just put up with the 'meagre' 500 shots you can get rather than 50million poor quality ones.

With a bit of playing about you could bring the colour right back too. 8)

Thats a nice capture and worthy of getting the colour and sharpening spot on, you could even get away with slightly contrasty colours and a bit of over sharpening...

The composition of your pics are excellent. I can see a budding photographer there.

Great pics Azza, looks like a nice dive site!

I could definately do with some lessons in photo editing, does anyone know of a good basic/beginners guide to underwater photo editing using photoshop? (or any other software for that matter) At the moment I just play around with the photos but have no idea what I am actually doing..

Just to add to the photoshop lesson, don't use the unsharp mask until you've done all your other colour adjustments.

To fix the colours being out of whack, I usually use 'Levels', then adjust the red, green and blue histrograms one at a time. There is lots of room for adjustment, and you can spend ages working it all out.

You can also use the "quick mask" option to set the levels on difference parts of image.

I'll try and find some good online lessons :)

Or on CS4 you can just use the auto-levels and it actually works! Muhc improved on CS3, CS2.

Cheers for all your help guys.

PH I tried your flash idea today and it doesnt work so well with Macro and a fixed flash. Maybe I need side strobes...

This is "as is" from the camera..you dont really notice the flash

This is with Auto Levels and Colour - Notice how the flash really stands out? This is with a diffuser in place

Took a few others...
