How often do you use the yellow pages?

I just received a bill from them for my business. Although I never authorised another listing as I believe people just use it like they once did.

Anyway last year when I did authorise the add I apparently agreed to let the add roll over. Pfft! I think they slipped that one in on the contract because they know its a doomed form of advertising.

Thoughts?

I put my new yellowpages straight into the recycling bin. I am going to find out if you can opt out of getting a hardcopy as I always use the online, on the odd ocassion I actually use them. What a waste of paper imo

The only way I'd use the yellow pages would be if they were softer and more absorbent...

I do use the yellow pages but 8/10 times I use the online one. It's much better, faster(if your computer is already on) and you can narrow the search down, and then it gives you a little map. If I am looking for a local supplier of something I use Yellow Pages before I use google or similar.

To answer the first question, I would say 10 to 20 times year, including online use.

Mate,

From the professional ranks...

Yellow pages is waaaaaay over priced, in fact it's criminal what they can charge for that. I'm not sure if you can just use the online version - but for your needs I would definitely recommend that if you can.

Some other thoughts for you (for the car alarms / radio stuff) to spend the money on to promote your business...

I can put you in touch with the team who do the motoring publication at the Herald if you like - you may think that it will be too expensive - but now is the time to get a deal there, and you may be surprised (you may not and still think it's expensive, but what can it cost you? They may even buy you a coffee or beer to discuss your needs!). I would say that there could be some mileage in talking about a small promotion with them too - you supply and fit a car stereo / alarm system for a reader, they give you a load of advertising free. Let me know if you fancy that.

Failing that (and I shouldn't really be saying this) but radio is also a lot cheaper these days, and they will also make your ad for you - right now, probably for free. Could be another way of getting to a new audience.

Any of the car mags should bite your hand off to offer a deal on advertising right now as well - they are absolutley desperate.

So basically - relook at what you may have discounted in the past - what you have thought of before as too expensive may surprise you nowadays.

Good luck. Gove me a yell if you wanted to chat anything through.

I really don't like the new yellow pages website since it was sold by Telecon. Their search engine seems to be pretty shit now.
So if I am looking for local businesses I will just use the paper version if I have one handy.
