If hyperbaric chambers can supposedly help heal all sorts of things due to the increase oxygen partial pressures, can diving have the same effect?

Sounds like a good justification to dive more if you ask me :D

Just to clarify there is no supposed about it, it is well proven to be beneficial.

I asked a mate who is a Hyperbaric physician in CHCH a while ago.. I can't remember the details but I seem to recall that it came down to... no.

The partial pressures that O2 is breathed at in a chamber would be waay to dangerous to try and achieve while diving..

Nice Avatar by the way!

Oh yeah I just read that 100% O2 is breathed at 3 atmospheres.

Apparently there have been 50 recorded deaths due to fire in chambers!

I think the majority of those fire events would be a wee while ago as the ambient O2 pressure is kept very low now to mitigate the risk..

I doubt there are any chambers that don't use BIBS or similar (Built In Breathing Supplies) for 100% O2. But then I can't say for sure....

Every now and then they have to flush the chamber as the pp02 of the chamber increases due to leakage around the mask etc.

i have an extremely large haematoma on my leg and have had so since oct 2007.
the doctors tell me that diving and pressure is having a good effect on it as it is decreasing in size quicker than if i wasnt diving

Yes but that is (as far as I know) a benefit of increased pressure and gentle exercise rather than a benefit of HBO2.

I have been told that it is beneficial as part of a post run recovery to stand chest deep in water as the pressure differential is thought to help remove waste products and fluids. Dunno if that's proven or not.

Dive 32% / 36% nitrox and carry a pony-bottle of 50% nitrox to use as your safety-stop breather.
My grey hairs have ceased since I began diving with nitrox - to think they started when I met my now wife.
39 years old.
