This shot really demonstrates the power of a strobe to really speed up the pic. I doubt I could have got the wing unbrlued even with bright sunlight.
Its something my ring of light will not accomplish.

A strobe will NEVER produce the amount of light that the sun does on a bright day mate. Plus If your shooting flash the highest shutter speed you'll get is 1/250. I can shoot at 1/8000 with the sun illuminating the scene.
Plus-the wing is blurred and has blown out highlights due to bad reflection.

Still a cool shot though. Try birds-bit harder and more detail to capture.

Yeah... On a sunny day try shining your brightest torch at a shadow, then use a small mirror to reflect the sun into the shadow. Pretty humbling really...

It's funny you should say that. We used to do the same thing with a small mirror to look down cargo tanks when I was on a bitumen carrier. During the night we would use torches but on overcast days it was impossible to see anything. It was just a big black hole no matter what you did or what size torch you had.

I'd never really made the connection to photography before though.

I do. Between the hours of 7am and 7pm. Did you think that was the sun?
