I know there is a lot of debate about drysuits ....

I've a choice between a Pinnacle or Bare, both back entry and brand new. The Pinnacle has the telescopic torso and a few other bits and pieces. Unfortunately they're both rear zip : (

But, my question is what is the most durable, well made in terms of seals, zips etc. Or does the quality change per model not just manufacturer ?

ps ... they're both membrane

Bare guarantees the seams for the life of the suit, even if you sell it or buy a second hand one. I've seen a few and they seem to be very well made. Don't know too much about the pinnacle ones.

Yeah I can only speak for the Bare suits, very well made (well a few hiccups with the pockets but sorted now) but I wouldn'tshell out the mega$$$ that Aquanought are asking for them now .. Pity Pete isn't still selling em..

Pete tells me the face fabric of the line of membrane suits he's doing now isn't quite as bullet proof as the HD Bare suits he was doing but lifetime warranty on fabric and materials too....

If I was in the market Pete would be my first call.

My brand new bare will cost me a $1000 - including undersuit, but it's not ninja 4th element. Do you think Pete could beat that ?

Bare dry suit for a $1k? Is this second hand?Bare make good suits and the service was much better when pete had the suits as opposed to aquanaught let alone the huge jump in price.Pinaacle are crap I have a friend down here has sent his suit back 6 time for various faults and is now seeking a refund.

Is it stolen? Drysuits direct sold these for about $2100 I believe (without the undergarment). Global Dive now sells them for about $2800 or so, and 1 year old ex-rental ones for about $2100.

no not stolen or second hand...

So I take it if I buy for $1K it's a good deal (even with a rear zip). Now, my source won't cutomise the size so it comes off the shelf... is that a big problem with dry suits. I weighed myself this morning. I'm 72 kg - 173 cm tall with size nine (UK) feet. Will that fit a standard size ?

Hi Barracuda,

I had an old 5mm bravo drysuit with rear entry. I thought it was the best drysuit until i bought Bare trylam front-entry suit from Pete when he sells them at $1800 just before Aquanaut took over.I don't think i wanna go back to rear-entry.Still $1000 for Bare reaqr-entry is a good deal. Now Pete has his own brand name drysuit front-entry for $2500.

maybe I'm just a tight arse but I don't know if an extra $1500 (2500 - 1000) is money well spent just so I can zip myself up, I mean there are always people on the boat. $2500 sounds like a lot to me - is that where his suits start. Someone already said that Global Dive sell Bare for $2100, are Pete's any better ?

I have heard there are people who are happier with a rear entry than a front entry suit. I suppose is what you prefer.Since I got the suit i often do solo diving.

I bought the front-entry suit because it was only for $1800.At that time, front-entry suit at Diveshops was $2300 the cheapest.

I don't know if Pete's suit is any better than other suits available in NZ but he gives very good after sales service even for the bare suit that he used to sell.

Oceandry is also introducing new front-entry suit. But don't know the selling price though.

If you need to know the sizing, see if there is a sizing chart for the bare drysuits (these are normally brand specific). Or ask the seller.
