That was for second hand ex-rental drysuits.

A grand would be well unbeatable i'd say! Even if there was no after market support a hell of a lot would have to go wrong a couple of times for it to come close to retail....

Score!

I'd love to BUT ...

I sent him an email last night, so I guess that qualifies as an Internet Sale. I couldn't live with myself knowing that I involved you all in the demise of the NZ scuba industry.

I've got a suggestion, why not go to you LDS with a couple of tinnies and see if he'll reduce the price to something more akin. :))

In all seriousness, the DS's he's got have already been "SOLD" but I can ask him.

one more thing ...

he talked about soft boots /hard boots - do I need to go buy a pair of hard boots ? are they really needed when I only dive off boats ?

Barrucada, i have both soft and hard boot. i think soft boot is the sock type which i have in my old drysuit. the advantange of using that, is u can wear any shoes/boot on top of it. i just use a $15 converse type shoes. This way if the shoes/boot si worn off i don't need to spend $200 OR MORE IN REPLACING THEM. Unless you ruin your sock.even that the cost is still cheaper than replacing a drysuit boot. The only problem i have is that in taking the suits off. It's like my feet is stuck in them. My bare suit comes with a boot.

Sunkarm,

You just wear trainers on your feet (is that correct)

Doesn't that really upset your trim - do they get heavy when soaked ?

So far it was quite comfortable and i didn't feel the difference underwater. However, some divers who use them, they dirlled holes on the shoes/boots sole, so the water can drain out when you come out of the water. I never bothered to drill my sneaker.

All the tinnie houses around here keep getting busted. Perhaps beer would be a better option.

Okay - a laminate medium would fit, but I was recommended a little customisation near the shoulders. My mate showed me his drysuit which happened to be a crushed neoprene (he can't get these cheaper). That medium fitted really well, and because I wear a 2 pce 5mm wetsuit I wouldn't need much more weight (is that true ??) and I could buy a cheaper undergarment. But I've heard they neoprene drysuits can be a little extra work - take longer to dry etc ? Any comments on one versus the other ? It's not needing extra weight that has got me interested.

Its hard to say if you will need more or less weight.
I have a 7mm wetti, a neoprene dry and a trilaminate dry

I use more weight with the trilam in winter due to the 200gram undersuit.
In summer I can use any suit with no weight except for the 2kg trim weight, stainless steel plate and twin fabers.

ok forget all that .... now that I'm in the UK for a few weeks I thought I'd go and see my old instructor. Luckily, he was updating his gear so I bought a second hand Otter off him for £250 Inc hose and it's just had need seals . I thought that was a sweet deal. He tried to sell me a weezle for £160 but I've jsut picked one up second hand on eBay for £40.

... that should be me sorted for a while. I phoned direct dive who make Otter and a new Otter Skin is about £690 ($1,770) but Oceandry wanted $2507. I told this to Direct Dive and he said he'd have no problem selling to anyone directly even though he had a reseller if they contact him via their website.

I tried buying a Otter direct and they told me where to go (Oceandry) after getting quoted a price I told them where to go. :)

yeah that's what I said to him, but they are trying to push their brand and when he realised the price in NZ was just prohibitive he said why not ? he'd rather make something rather than nothing...

It's shite really that they allow such a markup, the price should be standard with a reseller discount and an expainable import margin ... I think we've had this conversation.
