ok so who's keen for a photo fishing comp?
basicly you take your camera and we all start from the same location and either have one tank (must return with 50bar) or 1 1/2hrs snorkelling time.
the goal is to take a photo of as many different fish species as possible (triplefins, eels and rays included)....

once back all photos are uploaded as is to a laptop where later on 2-3 judges ID as many different species as possible.
you also have a copy of your photos so you can count etc....

whos keen?

Just to clarify, Its not the best photo that wins its the ONE photo with the most fish varietys in it or the most fish varietys in all the photos?

Great idea for a comp Andy but how about instead of limiting the gas supply just limit the time.

If we have enough interest perhaps the board could cough up for a prize???

Oh by the way I dont think this comp should happen before I get my housing!

...so anything in the rules saying I can't strap a video camera to my head, and submit the results, frame by frame? ;)

it's about taking a photo of each different specie it doesn't have to be good it just has to be identifiable to the judges (although you have a copy so you can argue it if you think you got 14 different species and the judges only gave you 12)

the only reason for limiting the gas supply is to stop people risking their safety by sucking a tank dry......

yeah it has to be a still camera......for those who don't have a camera you can get disposable cameras quite cheap...........

Photo comp
17th(was the 10th) Jan 2pm start.
followed by a BBQ afterwards

heres the rules, but remember it's a fun comp so they're loose.

Species list
All species under species sections of projectlocal as of the date of the competition.
http://www.projectlocal.co.nz/index.php/species
http://www.projectlocal.co.nz/index.php/species---other

competition
all competitors will start at the same location and will have 1 1/2 or 2hrs to snorkel, freedive or scuba dive anywhere within the chosen area and must return to the start area before the 2hrs is up.

Judging
memory cards are checked beforehand to make sure they're empty
first photo must be a clear photo of yourself for ID

max of 100 photos submitted excluding first face photo
photos are collected onto a laptop straight after dive as is.

should be in Jpeg form no garentees that photos will be viewable otherwise.

Judges will look over the photos counting as many different species as possible.
the fish must be easily ID'd if it's too hard to work it out it doesn't count.

1 point per species(so if you take 4 photos of 1 species you only get 1 point)

no limit to the amount of species counted per photo(so you can score 3 points for example of a photo with two different triplefins and a nudibranch)

you will have a copy of the photos and are encouraged to count your total, the judges results will be PM'd to each individual and the individual will have 24hrs to appeal any species that judges may have missed.

the winners will be posted on the forum
the judges decisions are final and this is for fun so don't get your knickers in a knot if your not happy!
