hi all. im in the finishing process of setting up a NZ underwater stock photo business (web page soon and cataloges in the mean time) of underwater photos.
the very short and simple is $25 per standard image (per single use)
and $60 per outstanding image (per single use) (we decide if an image is "outstanding"

at the moment the photographer would get 50% commission.
these rates are above any standard online stock website that ive seen.
at the moment we've got a couple of magazines keen and the publishers of a book would like some photos.

im also looking for images to be printed on canvas to sell in stores etc...

So 50% of $25 is ....$ 12.50 per photo?

So if on a web site we get $12.50 each time its viewed?
And $12.50 for each copy of magazines it is published in?

shots that are in focus hahaha, but seriously anything thats a nicely composed focused shot right up to your master pieces.
the better the photos the more likely they'll sell.

the way i figured it is i know heaps of photographers and all them have at least 3-4 really good shots (some only take good shots) so why not put them all together in one place so they can be used and you can make something back from them.

Wow. Only 3 or 4? So $2k worth of camera, strobe, housing, memory cards and software and its only going to get a $37.50-$50 return?

the photos can be sold as many times as people want to buy them maybe once maybe 10 times maybe 100's of times who knows.....

I was working on the theory that if enough people spend enough time in the water they're going to end up with some outstanding stuff without really trying. If we got all them and then got the great shots from people who try together in one place we could get some commercial interest.

I think it sounds good AITB. How will it work for individuals wanting to buy a picture? Will I be able to download a photo and then print it to canvas, or will I have to buy it pre-printed?

you'd have to buy a pre printed canvas which is something kind of separate. the rules are basically that you can't buy a picture and make it into a canvas or print as thats not in the definition of use
