A request to those of you that have purchased a modified IST from me.

If you have another type of dive light could you please do a side by side comparison pic and post it.
I have been getting a few requests for comparisons.

Here is one of a UK C8 eLEDfrom this thread

Since that pic was posted on SB buy a purchaser interest doubled.
Starting to run low on parts now!

If you would like to sponsor me one, I'd be only too happy to do a side by side comparison with my P7...
Only kidding - apart from the fact that you've already got P7 comparisons.

I'm mighty pissed off as I missed out on an ebay auction on Friday for an IST with charger and batts at $17.50USD because I was throwing a ball around the office 1 min before the auction finished.
Been kicking myself ever since.

When will people learn, autobids win auctions. I should point out the stock batteries are pretty crap and only give an hour burn time. So you are better off with out them and getting it bored out for a 18650.
Even though thats still a good price. Was it new or used?

I know, I know.
It was new - one of those Deluxe Dive Light Packs.
Don't know how high the bidding would have gone, but for some other clown to get it for $1.00 more than my last bid greats something chronic.

On the left is the modified IST. On the right is an Ikelite PCM with fresh Energizers.

I used my new IST on Saturday. One of the first things my buddie said when we surfaced was "I think my torch must have flat batteries"

Can you use normal AA batteries in these lights?

No you cant.

I will have a similar powered light that will use AA's in the near future.

left W200/R2......right IST

Image

W200/R2 has a slightly larger beam and is slightly brighter. Its also 50% longer takes twice the batteries and costs 50% more.

IST will run for about an hour or so then slowly dim down until it turns off. This will be 4-5 hours total run time at a guess. I doubt you will notice it dimming down in the first 2-3 hours.

W200/R2 will run for 4-5 hours at full out put with no dimming and then turn off with out warning.

There are also the W200/P7 and W200/MCE models which use high power multi die LEDs. These have a wide beam and 3 power levels. Burn time on high is about 1.5 hours.

Always.

Just finished a cannister light head with 3 x cree XRE 3.7watt LEDs and a Cree MC-E 12watt LED. Gives a great spot and useful spill as well. Similar to a 21w HID but brighter and stronger.

Also plan on building a hand held spotlight for our Coastguard boat that has 6 XR-E LEDs. Will basically be the power of 6 W200/R2s. Should have a beam that throws further than a 50w HID.

Then there is my single man submersible... oops said to much!!
