Next time you are entertaining, buy a few casks and pour them into bottles before serving. I bet nobody tastes the difference.

bollocks - its like sugary alcopop!

the only thing Chateau du Cardboard is good for is blowing the bags up to use as pillows for a long hot soak in the tub

I bet that the average wine drink wouldn't know the difference in a blind test.

actually you can get some reasonable cask wine. Some of the Australian producers have released some decent quality stuff.

Banham Station does one which is fine for an everyday glass of wine, and a couple of others do to - starts at about $23 I think in the supermarkets.

If you buy the cheap cask stuff then you're on your own on that as it will be vinegar, but spend over $20 and you may be surprised.

I wouldn't serve it at a dinner or anything, but for everyday it's perfectly quaffable.

So Alex, do you have any bladders? Or do you intend to buy any cask wine in the near future?

no, sorry, to both questions. I thought you may be looking for an easy way to keep a cheap supply of wine for any guests!

Bladder wine is the middle class answer to the glue bag...

I drink Cider where/when possible but I do prefer a good beer.
My god! You guys have some fantastic Beer over there. Speights, Tui, Canterbury and a few others I gurrggled. I couldn't find the place where the Worlds Best Beer was served, over the counter only - 'something-something-Bok' the beer was :?:
I'm not a big wine fan (lived in a few boarding houses with winos), even for meals. The casks make great water bombs though.

Seriously if you consider these beers to be fantastic that's not saying a lot for Aussie beers! The first two aren't even what they claim to be on the label (ales).

tui is like drinking water!
The Mac's range I like, and the Monteiths - especially the black beer.

Some good aussie stuff too though, I really like Coopers, and Little Creatures. Redback is pretty good.

One of my favourite beers is mexican - modelo negro (think that's the spelling). It's a blcak beer and bloody fantastic.

Samuel Adams from Boston is a great ale as well.

Of course locally you can't beat a bit of Middle Earth Brewery's Shelob's Sting though...
